Overview Of The Project
Client Name:
VacciCare, Nigeria.
Tools Used:
Figma.
My Role:
UI/UX Designer, UX Researcher.
Project Duration:
4Weeks.
Problem
Statement:
Parent and caregivers often face challenges in keeping track of their children’s vaccination schedules due to lack of accessible tools, forgotten dates and misplaced vaccination records. This can lead to missed immunizations and putting children at risk of preventable diseases. There is a need for an intuitive and reliable mobile app that helps parents manage vaccination schedules, sets reminders, securely store records and access accurate educational resources, ensuring children receive timely vaccinations for a healthier future.
Solution:
I designed a modern and user friendly App to help parents and caregivers track and manage their children’s vaccination schedules. The App also helps to simplify the process of staying up-to-date on immunizations and provides educational resources about vaccines.
Process Of The Project
Research and Discovery
I conducted surveys/interviews with parents to identify pain points in managing immunizations. I found out that parents forget vaccination dates or lose physical records. Users also wanted a single platform for reminders, records and educational content. Accessibility and simplicity were key for non-tech-savvy users.
Ideation and Wireframing
Based on the insights gathered, I created low fidelity wireframes to map out the user journey, focusing on easy navigation and task completion. I also created “Brain-stormed Features” like: Personalized vaccination schedules. Automatic reminders for upcoming vaccines. Educational articles and FAQs about childhood vaccines. Secure storage for vaccination records.
Visual Design
I chose a child-friendly and reassuring color palette (e.g. pastel tones). I incorporated playful yet professional elements like icons and illustrations I also used accessible typography to cater to diverse users, including those with low literacy levels. I then designed a visually engaging dashboard showing upcoming vaccinations completed milestones.
Prototyping
I created an interactive prototype in Figma to showcase key user flows, which are: Adding a child’s profile, Viewing the immunization schedule, setting up reminders for vaccines and Accessing educational resources. I also conducted usability testing to gather feedback and refine the app design.
Development
As the UI/UX designer, my primary focus during this phase was to ensure the development team had everything they needed for a seamless implementation of the design. I delivered a complete design package, including detailed style guides, design assets and specializations for developers. I provided interactive prototypes to demonstrate user flows and animations. I also conducted regular design reviews with the development team to address any challenges and ensure fidelity to the original design.
Testing and Launching
I participated in usability testing to validate that the final app matched user needs and expectations. I worked closely with testers to identify and resolve design-related issues, ensuring a consistent and intuitive user experience. During Launching, I assisted the team in preparing marketing visuals, such as app screenshots and promotional banners for app stores. I also reviewed the final product post-launch to access user feedback and identify areas for future improvements.
Outcome/Result
I delivered a user-friendly design that simplifies vaccine tracking for parents. Features like “Reminders” and “Records” helped reduce the stress of vaccine management. And lastly, I got positive feedback from usability testers on ease of use and visual appeal.
Lessons Learned
*The importance of simplicity in health-related apps especially for users who may not be tech-savvy.
*Early user research helps shape features that truly meet user needs.
*Building trust through clear communication and engaging visuals is crucial for apps related to health.
